missed appointment

Oops, I missed my physio this morning. I thought it was this afternoon. The day was really busy but all in all things are coming together. there will be a few issues, like some of the computer ports not working, but otherwise all should be okay. My ankle and foot were very sore this morning but I was okay enough to take rory for a walk out by the parliament buildings. It was a real nice night.

Owiee!

Well I started my day picking up cables from queale. Unfortunately, they were the wrong cables. But at the end of the day I returned them and at that time realized they were the right cables. Shheesh! The day was pretty good. I did some more photography and paperwork. Frankly I prefer the photography. I had a nice talk with Joan Humphries about Jerry Springer - the Opera and Sweeney Todd. I decided to go for a walk so I elected to walk up to UVic and renew my bus pass. I did but at 2.8 km it was a bit of a long walk. Owiee. My ankle is hurting. She played Mrs. Lovett for VOS's production. M and I had a car ride after work and then came home via WalMart. We got some new pants for M and a velour drop for work.

A busy Monday

I took the bus to work, I actually could leave a little earlier or later to make better connections. I found out why my visa wasn't working, I spent too much this month, I have to remember that for next year. I got really busy taking pictures and doing paperwork. Overall it was a good day.

I watched nightline's report on Katrina: a year later. It was pretty pansy compared to Spike Lee's version. I finished the Carnegie book, not bad.

the well worn weekend

Bright, Hot, and delightful. What a delightful weekend. We started our weekend off by taking Rory for a car ride and on our way we ventured to Cattle Point. It was really pretty. While we were there we saw the after gathering of a wedding and a seal noshing on a salmon. It was really pretty. We ate rather dreadfully all day saturday. Sunday wasn't much better. I was up bright and early for a soak. Then Rory and I went for a walk across the blue bridge to the totems by the Delta. It was a really nice walk and except for the train whistle scarring Rory, he enjoyed it too. M and I went out to check out the used car sale in Langford. It basically sucked, but it was a nice car ride. We came back into town and stopped off at the Government Street Market and checked out the new Mountain Co-op Store. It is a big change from the old store in Calgary. We came home to watch the Emmy's. It was a big case of who cares, except that it was nice that Elizabeth I won a bunch. And then it was the last episode of Deadwood. I sure am going to miss the show.

Friday, the weekend is here!

I was really happy to see friday finally come. I opened up at the office and got the day going. All was going okay except I was supposed to be doing first aide too. I was kind of surprized when one of the guys from phys res came in holding his arm. He needed a write up for a saw that bucked on him. The rest of the day was business as usual. AVS and I are breaking in the new aide. He should do well.
After work, M and I didn't get into too much trouble. We stayed home, had chinese food and watched Twister.

Its humpday

My foot is really hurting today. After teaching an hour class this morning and a bunch of running around setting up equipment and solving problems, my foot hurts. In the afternoon, M and I drove around and picked up supplies. We got network cables, power hoses, and powerbars. Now we have to ID all of them before someone swipes them. In the evening M went to bingo and I stayed home and worked on the web page for VicBigGuys Just a short entry today.

Is it Friday yet

Back at the physio, my heel is healing. He gave me an extra boost on the electro thingy and I laid, sat, and otherwise squirmed back and read two more chapters of the Andrew Carnegie biography. So I was really stiff when I got out of the place. I picked up lunch and went back to work. I shot a few more portraits and helped plan a couple events. AS is back to having issues about his installations. He got really frustrated but came up with the solution. I watched the second half of When the Levees Fell by Spike Lee, its a great documentary.

When I came home I was feeling all cool and then it felt like a red hot ember was under my heel. Owie. It went away.

B - muffin
L - Subway club
S - shake and bake chicken/ scalloped potatoes

Back at work Monday

Okay, back at work, its Monday. I actually like going to work on Monday. Of course by noon the novelty has worn off and I would rather be out reading my books while lounging in the hammock. Still, I had a good day. KE is back from layoff, AS is doing good work, all appears to be coming together. The posting went up for the aide, it isn't correct but that's okay. M found out she likely will not get the services assistant job, but it may be a foot in the door to the department. crap.
I hope something good comes for her cause she deserves it. We watched Spike Lee's When the Levees broke: a requiem in four acts, act 1 and 2. It was awesomely good. I am really looking forward to tomorrow and the next two parts.

Food for the day
B - Muffin
L - Egg Salad sandwiches x2
S - Ham scalloped potatoes
20 min exercise.

No coke today.

Lazy Sunday

It was a nice quiet morning. Best of all my foot and ankle didn't hurt when I woke up. M and I went out on the backyard and after a small struggle with my hammock I was able to find a spot under the plum tree in the shade. M and I took Rory out for a car ride and to pick up rory some dry dog food. We managed to find a Dairy Queen along the way. I made some muffins for breakfast and Egg Salad for sandwiches. And since I had the oven on and M wanted some, I made ham and scalloped potatoes. I saw a posting for a job for M. I excercised this morning, but I did it in 12 minute blocks. It was the second last episode of Deadwood tonight. I am going to miss that show but I also think that wrapping the thing up in three seasons and a finale will elevate the show to a work of art.

Either a new excercyle or laundry rack

We started out by M getting up way to early. I did get my hot tub in, and had a nice solo breakfast, but I wanted to surprise her with some cleaning that didn't happen. We then went out to Costco to by a new exercycle. We actually saw this bike last fall but said "we will get it later." Then we saw it again in Richmond before we took off to Cuba, and we said "We will get it at home." Well, yesterday we say it and I said to hell with it we will get it now. We picked up a proform GL-125 for less than $250. That was a pretty good deal since a year ago these were over $500. M and I put it together in under a couple of hours with no arguements or violence. I did knock M down on the lawn but that's because she didn't zig when she should have zagged. In the evening we watched Saskatchewan Roughriders serverly trounce the Hamilton TigerCats. Blow outs can be pretty boring games. The Riders won 46-15

Food was good today
Poached Egg and Toast
Cheese and Garlic sausage for lunch
BBQ Pork and Salad for supper
one coke, It was supposed to be diet but m got the real thing

Just another Friday

Well it was another visit to the Physio. In the waiting room I met a guy who was writing a book on Walking, Exercise, and Weight Loss. M. Collis, Ph.D. was the most interesting guy to talk to. He had a lot of very positive ideas about walking and loosing weight. You can see his suff at http://www.speakwell.com. The physio treatment went okay, I am not sure what good most of it will do. Back at work I had a rather distracted day. But it was a good distraction.
After work Marla and I went grocery shopping. Good thing it was payday.

homesick or sick at home

I walked around too much yesterday and my foot was not getting the rest it needed, so here I am today at home from work with my recovering foot. Being at home sick isn't the same as it was before. Seeing as I am home sick, I am not really isolated from the office. I have already had two phone calls and answered a bundle of e-mails.

On the other hand, I had a very good day yesterday. I spoke with the director of the fitness program about vicbigguys and he has offered us trainers, facilities, and a place to meet. This was kind of cool, he also liked my letter to health professionals so I am going to start distributing them on Friday. Actually I gave one to the orthotic dr. and he kind of goofed it up.

I have been having diet coke lately. I have come to the conclusion that diet coke is good only if it is very cold or if you are dying of thirst and there is nothing else left.

Food for yesterday:
2 very small ham and cheese sandwiches
coke
chicken nuggets, really bad chips, coke.

Food today:
I made bran muffins, one of those
a handful of pretzels
a peanut butter bun

So here I am back to today, I am just taking it easy. Tonight we are going out to see Danny C's play in Sidney. Just getting out would be nice.

ttfn

addendum:
We went out to see Danny Costain in the Hosie Connection's production of One More Time, its a old trooper of a show held out at the Mary Winspear Center in Sidney. for starters, it is a really good theater. It is a nice space to watch a review and it is quite small. Only 300 seats available. The show itself is a musical walk through the songs of the 30s to the 50s. It was pleasent. Kind of a combination between a Lawrence Welk Show and a cruiseship show. I enjoyed it.

Visiting the Physio

Ouch, my foot still hurts. Well at least it did this morning when I got up. Then I went to the physio and he fixed me up. It was kind of nice to actually just lay back and read for a while. I am still working on the Andrew Carnegie autobiography. So the physio suggested that I always wear shoes. M indulged me by going out to Costco and purchasing a pair of Nuk Nuk slippers. Actually the Physio said that for the next four days or so I should nurture my inner couch potatoe. The rest of the day was filled with office work and a visit from an old friend. I did one more really cool thing today. I got to hire a couple of guys, a favourite thing to do.

Oh one more story, Plantar Fasciitus is often called the British Disease. Mostly because people visit merry old England and walk all over the place. Then they come home an can't walk because of the damage they did the their feet. Well I guess that's better than having the French Disease.

What I ate:
A really bad bagel
A subway club
Half a small icky pizza
Watermelon bits.

missing the bus

I have lately attempted to be more environmentally aware and financially responsible. So I am taking the bus. I think the guy who invented Ipods must have ridden the bus. Ipods are such a great way to turn off the rest of the world. I was enjoying my own private world while I was transferring buses this morning. My music tastes are pretty mundane compared to most. This week I am listening to Gordon Lightfoot, Garth Brooks, Assorted classical pieces, the cast of Wicked, and folk songs from the sixties. I am also reading the autobiography of Andrew Carnegie.

The wierd thing about autobiographies, when people write them, they always come across so noble and good. Carnegie really took advantage of this because he had two cracks at correcting what he had written, once in the late 18oos and again in 1906. Still it would be nice to believe the bs. His virtues of working hard, learn more, take advantage of opportunities, all appear to be good things. Still, wasn't this guy called a Robber Baron.

Anyhow, I was busy reading about Andrew Carnegie and was really getting into. That's when my bus drove by. Damn. But the nice thing about life, there is always another bus. After a pretty average day, I bussed home and we had some very good fish and chips. Over all, it was a pretty good day.

My foot really hurts when I get up, or if I have been sitting for a while and then get up. It is called Plantar Facsiitis so tomorrow I am off to have physio and get some treatment for it.

starting

Well this is a start of what will eventually be my writing place. I have no idea of what will be here but lest it be said what it lacks in content, may it posess in want of quality. My likes are movies, theatre, Canadian Football, Baseball, dogs, cats, travel, and learning.

Speaking of movies, lately I watched "Enron - the Smartest Guys in the Room" and "Jerry Springer - the Opera". Both are excellent. So if you consider that those are the films that I liked can you imagine my opinion of " Talladega Nights: the ballad of Rickie Bobbie". Actually I liked it, sort of. Also lately I watched "Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me", and "the Benchwarmers" that were both enjoyable.

I just finished reading Andrew Jackson: Symbol for an Age and Up From Slavery the biography of Booker T. Washington. Now I am moving on to the Autobiography of Andrew Carnegie.

I had a great exercise day, I was on the bike for 20 minutes this morning and walked for 20 minutes with Rory this afternoon. When I was grocery shopping today, I honestly looked for diet snack or candies to replace the sugary ones that I have been munching on. I think I will check in Safeway tomorrow.
